Elisha Nelson Manning is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League for 16 seasons with the New York Giants. He was selected first overall in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers and traded to the Giants during the draft. Manning is the youngest son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and younger brother of former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning.

Manning twice led the Giants to underdog Super Bowl victories against the New England Patriots' dynasty in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI. The former, which saw the wild card Giants defeat a Patriots team that was the first to win all 16 regular season games, is regarded as one of the greatest sports upsets of all time. Manning was named Most Valuable Player in both championships, making him one of five players to have multiple Super Bowl MVP awards.

As the Giants' starting quarterback from 2004 to 2019, Manning holds the franchise records for passing yards, touchdown passes, and completions. Never missing a game due to injury, he started 210 consecutive games from 2004 to 2017, the third-longest consecutive starts streak by an NFL quarterback. Manning ranks eighth all-time in passing yards and ninth in touchdowns. He also ranks first among active quarterbacks in career wins, fourth in passing completions, and fifth in passing attempts.

The average salary for athletes in the United States is around $49,143 per year. Not however, if you play in the NBA where the average salary is projected to be around $8 million this year. Even then, though, earnings vary greatly. While some of the top players (we’re looking at you, Stephen Curry) earned over $45 million last year, others didn’t even reach the million-dollar mark.

As is the case with actors, musicians and other celebrities, the golden ticket to building an athlete’s net worth tends to lie in endorsements, sponsorships and selling their name (and often photos) wherever they can. Athletes have to be careful about what they do and say though… more than a few athletes have lost their product endorsements and been dropped by a brand over a scandal or unwise comment.
