Ja Rule started his career in the early '90s, when he was part of a group called Cash Money Click. During that period, Ja Rule released several underground albums and mixtapes under various pseudonyms. The first album with his real name was Venni Vetti Vecci (1999), which included hit singles “Holla Holla” and “How Many Emcees Must Get Dissed?” Between 1999 and 2001, Ja Rule collaborated with other artists for three more studio albums: R.U.L.E., Pain Is Love and The Last Temptation; all three reached platinum status in the United States.
In 2000, Ja Rule participated on Jay-Z's track “The Ruler's Back” from the Dynasty Roc La Familia compilation; two years later he appeared on Beyoncé Knowles' song “Crazy In Love” from her solo debut Dangerously In Love (2003). As an actor he made his film debut in Scary Movie 2 (2001) playing himself alongside fellow rappers like Snoop Dogg or Eminem; most recently he had guest appearances in two episodes of CSI: NY (2008).
