Remy Ma was born in the Spanish Harlem area of New York City. She is a daughter of Haitian parents and grew up listening to hip hop music. In her teens, she got interested in rap lyrics and learned how to write them herself. The girl began performing with fellow rapper Big Punisher who became very popular at that time. After he died, Remy Ma continued rapping alone but did not achieve much success until 2004 when she released a new album called “Shether” which contained tracks produced by Bad Boy Records label head Sean "Diddy" Combs himself. Her second solo album came out two years later titled “After Taxes” which was also successful thanks to its catchy single “Conceited” featuring singer Chris Brown from the Murder Inc Records label team. In 2009, another album called “There's Something about Remy: Based on a True Story", released by Universal Music Group label producers Shady/Aftermath/Interscope won many positive reviews while reaching number 2 on iTunes Hip Hop charts and number 3 on Billboard 200 chart selling over 18000 copies during its first week after release date (March 17th).
